Medicine without borders

Last month the EU Directive on Patient's Rights in Cross-Border Healthcare entered into force, allowing citizens from any EU country the right to go to another for planned medical treatment and be reimbursed for it. While subject to certain conditions, the law moves above and beyond the scope of previous agreements restricted primarily to emergency or 'necessary' care, which remain separate and untouched.
