Every year, 16 million mothers aged 15-19 give birth, representing 11 percent of births worldwide. Another two million girls under the age of 15 give birth every year. This means, that one in five girls worldwide has given birth by the age of 18. Almost all, 95 percent, of these births take place in low- or middle income countries and pregnancies are more likely to occur among poor, less educated, rural populations.
Many young professionals start their international careers as exchange students. An exchange year can give youth the first thrills of spending a longer amount of time abroad. This is exactly what happened to Anna Kjær Voss, when she travelled to Iceland for 5 months of studying.
The United Nations has declared the 12th of August International Youth Day. This year’s theme for the International Youth Day is “Youth Migration- moving development forward”. To mark the day, Internal Voices met up with United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, to discuss issues related to young people of the world.
